Twitter Tuesday - third-party Twitter apps take a beating and keep on tweeting

It's certainly not a good week to be a Twitter app developer (unless you work for Twitter, that is). Tweet honcho Evan Williams just revealed on the Twitter blog that third-party apps make up a teeny-tiny percentage of all Twitter traffic, with the Twitter website and official apps pulling the bulk of the weight. Ev stopped short of saying, "You think we need you, but we don't," but that seemed to be the implication.

3 September 2010, 3:30 pm
Filed under: Features, Mozilla, BrowsersHi there, Firefox fans. The esteemed Mr. Anthony is out this weekend, so I'm your host for today's Firefox Friday. Sad to say, things aren't looking too fantastic for Firefox at the moment.

Before he left, Sebastian ran a comparison of the hardware acceleration in modern browsers, and Mozilla's baby was lagging in last place. Browser growth was also stagnant for Firefox in August, according to this month's numbers.

It is, however, a very different service than when it started. What used to be a great place to find interesting links and hilarious commentary has become, for almost all intents and purposes, a Twitter clone.

Digg isn't about to shut its doors, but I do get the feeling that regular, loyal Diggers are looking to take their custom elsewhere. Judging by the 'Reddit incide...

Big changes for third-party apps on Twitter today: they can no longer require you to log in with your Twitter password. Twitter's mandatory switch to OAuth authentication has finally happened, which means you have more control over which apps can access your account.

In case you've never signed into a Twitter app with OAuth, here's how it works: you click to sign in, and get redirected to Twitter, where you'll see "ap...

I'm an avid Dropbox fan. I've been using it for a long time now, and it's one of a handful of applications that I think of as "mission critical" on my system.
But there are a couple of things that have always irked me about Dropbox. First and foremost, there are the rates. It's US$9.99/month for 50GB. Really? With online backup solutions such as Backblaze and Mozy offering unlimited storage for just $5/month, Dropbox's price tag seems quite...
